Nataraj Mocherla
Nataraj Mocherla is a Principal Software Development Engineer at Amazon with over 15 years of experience designing large-scale distributed systems and high-reliability cloud infrastructure. His work spans foundational cloud primitives, data platforms, and analytics systems that operate at global scale. At Amazon, Mocherla played a key role in building Amazon S3 Event Notifications, helping transform S3 from passive storage into an event-driven platform and enabling early integrations with AWS Lambda and other cloud services. His patented work on scalable event-delivery architectures underpins infrastructure that processes hundreds of billions of events per day and supports highly regulated, high-throughput environments.Beyond core cloud infrastructure, he has built distributed systems for customer experience measurement and led the development of unified analytics platforms that enable governed, petabyte-scale data exploration across heterogeneous data sources, significantly improving time-to-insight for analysts and senior leadership. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, along with an additional master’s degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is deeply interested in distributed systems, big data processing, systems performance, AI engineering and regularly publishes technical articles to share practical insights with the broader engineering community.
